Why Freshness Matters

Why Freshness Matters

Freshness = Flavour

The humble cuppa is integral to many people’s day, but how do you know if you're getting the most from your brew?

So, what’s the secret to great tasting tea?

The way we buy tea matters, and it starts with freshness. We're committed to finding the very best tea leaves, handpicked from some of the world’s most incredible tea estates. Once we’ve found the best leaves, they’re vacuum packed at source so they don’t go stale on the trip back. This is known as The Ringtons Way (formerly known as Leaf Lock).

We then blend and pack everything within 8 hours of it arriving at our factory in Newcastle, taking freshness to a whole new level. Just one machine can make around 2,000 tea bags every minute! And, of course, every blend is tested to make sure it’s a tea worth brewing.

The way you store it matters.

There are five things can affect the flavour of your tea – heat, light, moisture, oxygen and other odours. If tea sits unprotected, it’s in danger of getting stale and taking on other flavours from the environment around it.

Once you have the tea at home, it's important to continue to preserve the quality of your tea to maintain its freshness and flavour. It's essential to store tea bags in an airtight container in a cool, dry place, away from strong odours and direct sunlight. Exposure to air, moisture, and light will degrade the tea's flavour and aroma over time.

Using an airtight tea caddy can protect the tea, ensuring it tastes as fresh as the day it was picked and packed at origin.
