Dunk Tests and Blind Tastings - A Day in the Life at Ringtons

Ever wondered who taste-tests your tea and biscuits?

We stepped behind the scenes with the team who choose every Ringtons product, from everyday favourites to gift hampers, to find out how they make sure every sip, bite and box is worth sharing.

Tea. Biscuits. Chocolate. Hampers.

If you’re picturing a room full of people happily tucking into all of the above, you’re not entirely wrong.

“We taste. A lot.”

But there’s more to it than that.

Behind every cup of tea you brew, every biscuit you dunk, and every gift you send, there’s a team asking one simple question

“Would we be proud to send this to our own family?”

That’s the benchmark. Every single time.

A day that starts with taste and doesn’t end there

Of course, tasting is where it all begins, but it’s not quite as casual as it sounds.

Products are laid out. Scoring sheets are handed around. Tastings are done blind, so no one is swayed by packaging or brand. And importantly, no one shares their thoughts until the very end.

It’s quiet. Focused. Properly considered.

“We’re looking at texture, balance, finish… even how a biscuit holds up to a dunk.”

And yes, the dunk test is taken very seriously!

Beyond the tasting table

Once the crumbs are cleared, the real work continues.

The team spend their days:

  • Working closely with trusted suppliers, many of them family businesses like Ringtons
  • Refining recipes until they’re just right
  • Comparing products across the market to make sure quality and value are spot on
  • Planning future ranges from everyday tea and biscuits to seasonal hampers and curated gifts

“We look to the future - how we can meet new customer needs, enhance tea moments, and bring something genuinely enjoyable to the table.”

There’s a balance to strike. Staying relevant without chasing every passing trend. Bringing in something new, while holding onto the things people already love. Our amazing Apple Pie Cookies are a brilliant example of this.

It’s not just about products

For the team, it’s never just about what’s in the box.

It’s about the moment that comes with it:

  • A quiet cup of tea in the afternoon
  • A biscuit shared across the table
  • A hamper opened and explored, layer by layer

“We’re always thinking about how our products fit into real life — the small moments, the everyday rituals.”

Because tea is our thing, but it’s what happens around it that really matters.
