  • A Brief History of Fairtrade

If you only have a vague understanding of the practice of Fairtrade, it is, in essence, a worldwide movement that has the aim of helping smaller, local farmers and producers in less economically developed countries, such as Africa and parts of Asia, to receive a fair price for the goods that they farm and produce. This has been shown to improve the work ethic and has also helped communities purchase tools and machinery to improve their farming practices.

Many people assume that Fairtrade, which is also known as ethical and sustainable sourcing, is something that only came to light in the early 2000s. After all, this is when most people became aware of it. However, Fairtrade as a practice started in the 1940s and 1950s, when many groups of food traders wanted to ensure that farmers and other workers were able to earn a wage that would support them, as well as make sure that they had safe and clean working conditions. It wasn’t until 1992 that the Fairtrade Foundation was established. Today, this foundation is helping 1.4 million farmers in 74 countries earn a living wage.

  • Fairtrade Coffee

At Ringtons, we are able to offer our customers two different types of Fairtrade coffee. You will, however, need a coffee machine to brew them correctly, as they aren’t instant!

The first is perfect for that friend or family member who has long working hours and needs a bit of a boost. If that sounds familiar, then have a look at our Ringtons Fairtrade Espresso Coffee Beans. Or, for the person who likes a coffee with hints of chocolate, dried fruit, or even spices, it is well worth looking into our Ringtons Triple Impact Coffee Beans.

    Ringtons and Fairtrade: Our Commitment

At Ringtons, we are proud to work with both tea and coffee farms to help ensure that all of our high standards are met in these work environments. We also monitor supply chains to ensure that all of the produce we sell comes from transparent sources to help protect the rights and lives of the farmers who help us create our delicious and unique coffee beans.
