Weather fine but breezy. We passed Cape Palos at about 6:30a.m., Cape Nao about 10:45am. On the starboard side the Balearic Islands were visible. They constitute a Province of Spain. The principal islands are Majorca, Minorca, Ibaza, and Formentera. These islands were annexed by the Roman Empire in 123 B.C. They have belonged in turn to the Romans, Spaniards, Moors, French and English and finally ceded to Spain by England in 1803.
Palma is the Capital of the Islands. Port Mahon in Minorca was used by Nelson for refitting and watering his ships during the blockade of Toulon.
