A drive round Nuwara Wliya on a beautiful day and then onto the Naseby Estate which produces some of the finest high grown teas. It is a modern factory built only a year ago. The Manager, Mr Coleman, takes Mac on at tennis, this gave me a chance to get my hands and face a little better. The wind and sun in an open car have played havoc with them and they are most painful. We have travelled 560 miles by car in the most difficult country I could imagine and the courier says we have about another five hundred miles to do. We are able to see some of the factories we are aiming for and it looks as though one could throw a stone and hit them but we have to travel miles along narrow and winding roads with a sheer drop on one side to get to them. In this district one soon gets out of breath. We have visited gardens 7000 feet high and very near here there is a mountain over 8000 feet – Pedrotalagalla, the highest mountain in Ceylon, – but over 7000 feet is all jungle. We leave early tomorrow for Bandarawella.
