Back in 2022, one of our wonderfully talented customers made these fantastic knitted covers, especially for Ringtons mallows! We couldn’t help but share the instructions again as we raise a cuppa and celebrate the Coronation of King Charles III on the 6th of May.


Teapot:

Needles: 3.25mm (size 10) and 2.75mm (12UK).

Yarn: Small amounts of red/white/blue DK yarn and gold fingering for crown.

Teapot body:

  • Cast on 28 stitches, Purl 1 row.
  • Increase row
  • Knit 2, (pick up stitch, Knit 8) to last 2 stitches, pick up stitch, Knit 2  –  32 sts.
  • Beginning with a Purl row – 11 rows Stocking Stitch [add own pattern]
  • Decrease rows
  • Knit 3, (Knit 2 together, Knit 2) to end of row, Knit 3  –  25 sts.
  • Purl 1 row.
  • Knit 2 rows for rim of teapot. [in contrast colour]
  • Knit1, (Knit 2 together, Knit 1) to end of row, Knit 1  –  17 sts.
  • (Purl 2 together, Purl 1) to last 2 sts, Purl 2  – 11 sts.
  • Thread yarn through stitches and pull tightly. Sew sides together.

Teapot Spout: Cast on 5 stitches.

  • Knit front and back of every stitch  –  10 sts.
  • Beginning with a Purl row, Stocking Stitch 5 rows.
  • Knit 2 together, Knit 6, Knit 2 together  –  8 sts.
  • Purl 1 row.
  • Knit 2, Knit 2 together, Knit 2 together, Knit2  –  6 sts.
  • Purl 1 row, Knit 2 rows, cast off.
  • Add a tiny amount of stuffing to the widest part of the spout and attach it to the teapot then sew up the edges of the spout. Bend to shape.

Teapot Handle:

  • Cast on 16 stitches. Knit 3 rows. Cast off knitwise.
  • Sew handle to teapot covering the join.

For bobble:

  • Cast on 6 stitches [in contrast colour]. Stocking Stitch 5 rows.
  • Thread the yarn through stitches and pull tightly.
  • Sew sides and lightly stuff, join to top of teapot.

Crown (for teapot):

  • In gold fingering or lamé yarn, 2.75mm (size 12) needles.
  • Cast on 15 stitches, Stocking Stitch 4 rows.
  • Knit 1, (yarn forward, Knit 2 together) to end of row.
  • Begin with Purl row, Stocking Stitch 4 rows.
  • Cast off loosely leaving a long tail to sew cast off and cast on edges together.
  • Sew around bobble on lid.

Crown

Needles: 3.25mm (size 10)

Yarn: 

  • Purple (Paintbox 147 Pansy)
  • Fur (King Cole Truffle 4365 Coconut)
  • Gold (Rico Creative Lamé)
  • [or suitable DK alternatives]
  • Jewels to decorate.

For hat piece:

  • Cast on 28 stitches in Purple, Knit 2 rows. Don’t cut yarn.
  • Join in Fur, Knit 4 rows. Cut Fur yarn.
  • Join in Gold, Knit 6 rows. Cut Gold yarn.
  • Continue in Purple.
  • Increase row – K2, make 1 [by picking up yarn between stitches and knitting into the back of the new stitch], (K4, make 1) to the end, K2  –  35 sts.
  • Starting with a Purl row – Stocking Stitch 5 rows.
  • Decrease rows –      K2, (K2tog, K4) K2tog, K1  –  29 sts.
  • P2tog, purl to end of row  –  28 sts.
  • K2tog across the row  –  14 sts.
  • P2tog across the row  –  7 sts.
  • Thread yarn through stitches. Sew crown.

For bands: knit 2.

  • Cast on 28 stitches in Gold.
  • Knit 3 rows, cast off knitwise.

For bobble:

  • Cast on 10 stitches in Gold.
  • Knit 6 rows, thread the yarn through stitches and pull tightly.
  • Sew and lightly stuff. Covering a large bead (pony) works as well.

To finish:

  • Make up crown by sewing the bands in a cross over the hat piece.
  • Sew on bobble where bands cross making sure you go through all layers.
  • Decorate with jewels.

Please note this is not a toy and because of small bead/ jewels it is not suitable for children.
