Arrived at Madras. My left eye practically closed, and Lala, the bearer, is anxious. After a bath and change I took Bruce Scott’s advice and saw an old I.M.S Colonel who said I was suffering from lack of calcium in my blood (old age creeping on!) Had a double injection Colludal Calcium in my right arm and have to go again on Saturday for another injection. Then have to continue with the doses at Calcutta and onwards. I even thought the doctor was going to order me home. I have had a rough time with bites and sunburn and am staying in today to bathe my eye and rest after the injection. Mac is O.K. Much cooler here and a good hotel, “The Connemara”, which is being enlarged and improved in every way. They say it will shortly be the finest hotel in India.
